The Story
Behind the Light Soy Lamp
The idea for the Light Soy Lamp was born over sushi lunches. Heliograf founders Angus Ware and Jeffrey Simpson were shocked by the amount of single-use plastic that accompanied every takeaway meal. The small soy sauce fish containers became a recurring reminder of how easily everyday plastics can end up in our oceans.
By enlarging this familiar object and turning it into a functional lamp, Heliograf created a product that highlights an environmental problem while celebrating good design. The result is a globally recognised and award-winning lamp that invites conversation about sustainability and consumer habits.
Sustainable by Design
Sustainability is at the heart of every Light Soy Lamp. Each lamp is manufactured using 75% certified recycled ocean-bound plastic. This material is collected in coastal regions where waste management infrastructure is limited, preventing plastic from entering the ocean.
For every lamp produced, Heliograf also funds the removal of an additional 2 kilograms of plastic waste through its ocean clean-up partners in Southeast Asia.
The company's environmental commitment extends beyond the product itself. The Light Soy Lamp is packaged using plastic-free and compostable materials and has been designed according to circular economy principles.
The Design
The Light Soy Lamp is instantly recognisable thanks to its oversized soy sauce fish shape. What could have remained a disposable object has been transformed into a timeless piece of contemporary lighting.
Its playful appearance makes it equally suitable as ambient lighting, a design statement or a conversation piece in modern interiors. The modular construction also allows parts to be replaced or upgraded, helping to extend the product's lifespan.

Combining contemporary design with modern functionality, the Light Soy Lamp features touch controls, adjustable colour temperature (2700K warm white to 5600K cool white), and smart home compatibility with Matter and Apple HomeKit.
