Hanging a plate: instructions

Wall plates are a lot of fun, and it’s possible to hang all your favorite plates on the wall. However, it can be quite tricky to hang a plate neatly. This guide explains step by step how to hang a plate and which hanging systems are available. We’ll help you choose the right plate hanger and guide you through hanging your favorite plate.

Step 1: Measure your plate

First, it is important to measure your plate accurately. Take a measuring tape and measure the diameter of the plate. If you want to hang a bowl, measure the width of the bowl or dish instead. With the dimensions of the wall plate, you can then choose the right plate hanger.

Step 2: Choose the right plate hanger

There are different plate hangers available in various sizes. Match the diameter of your plate with the capacity that the hanger can support. Below, you’ll find the different hanging systems along with their advantages and disadvantages.

1. glue-free plate hanger plate hanger

A glue-free plate hanger is made of a special canvas with a soluble adhesive. You attach this hanger to the back of the plate. The system is suitable for plates made of ceramic, porcelain, and glass. The adhesive is easy to wash off after use and leaves no marks, allowing you to reuse the plate in another way later. The big advantage of this system is that nothing is visible on the front of the plate.

Glue-free plate hangers are available in different sizes:

2. Plate clamp (metal plate hanger)

A plate clamp has four spring-loaded feet that you pull over the edge of the plate. The levers and rubber tips keep the plate securely in place without causing damage. You attach the plate clamp to the back of the plate, with the feet slightly visible from the front.

Choose the right size plate clamp:

Place the hanger on the back of the plate. Make sure the hanger is positioned straight so the plate won’t hang crooked on the wall. Press firmly with your fingers or a fork and let the plate hanger dry overnight. The next day, check that the hanger is securely attached.

5. Hang the plate on the wall

Hold the plate against the wall and mark a point at the top of the plate. Then measure the distance from the top to the hanger and mark a second point at that distance. Place a nail or screw at this point, leaving a small portion protruding. Hang the plate on the hanger and enjoy your new wall decoration!
