After hardening, it is removed from the mold, refined, and left to dry. Next comes the first firing, the so-called biscuit firing, where the mug is baked at a high temperature to gain strength.

After this initial firing, the mug still looks raw and matte. The makers then hand-apply a layer of glaze or paint, sometimes even, sometimes with playful patterns or colorful illustrations. This is the moment the mug gains its unique look. It is then fired a second time. The high heat fuses the glaze with the surface, giving the mug its final shine, color, and durability.

The charm of a handmade mug lies in this artisanal process.
